Summary: Percy, Annabeth, and Grover take a taxi to Santa Monica where Percy meets the Nereid he had met before. This time she gives him some pearls to use in an emergency. Walking through an alley some kids attack Percy, Annabeth and Grover so they run into the nearest store, a waterbed store. There Annabeth and Grover are almost stretched to death on the waterbeds before Percy can kill the monster, Crusty.

--> "Don't worry," Crusty told me. "These are stretching jobs. Maybe three extra inches on their spines. They might even live. Now why don't we find a bed you like, huh?"
